There are two types of dreams. Ones that happen at night and make you either happy, sad or wondering if you really find that Purple Creature from McDonalds as attractive as your sub-conscience would lead you to believe, and then there are the ones that are more like aspirations. In both cases, what you can think of as perfectly normal, might be a bit off in future.
As what generally happens, with dreams, especially teenage ones, is that you wake up, grow out of them, or just generally think “Man, I used to be such an idiot for thinking that”. Of course, the joke is that we are always growing up really, and so we are always idiots all the time. Looking back on certain plans, aspirations or even dreams and seeing the subtle changes that caused everything to do a 180, or even a 90, now that’s a part of life.
It’s good, of course, to have these dreams, to have the big plans. The plans that not even you know how A leads to B, but you just know that somehow you are heading to E. The other steps can either fall into place or you learn to skip the unimportant ones. Sometimes you have to step back from your dream a few hundred meters just to see all of it. That’s the driving force behind choices and what not. Other times you have to wake up and realize that “no, that purple creature, what ever it is, is not that great looking, no matter what my brain seems to think”. Yes it can be hard to accept reality vs dream.
Part of growing up is waking up from your teenage dreams. They were fun for a while, but the world turns and fantasies are just that. This is part of what is known as becoming an adult. It’s all lies in my opinion. Adults just make it up as they go along, they just speak with that voice that says “I know what I am talking about”. There must be age when it arrives in the mail… But that’s another story.
We all have that time in our life when the reality sets in. It’s hard to accept, but that’s the way life goes. A trick I learnt is to not include people with these big dreams, the really big plans. That way I don’t have to wake up.
Dream big, dream wild, just make sure it’s remotely possible in the future. Hell, I’m still dreaming about my flying car.

If it weren't for dreamers, this world would be boring. There wouldn't be a lot of the inventions we have today.
