Have you ever stopped to think about every-day tasks. Things we do every day that we put ourselves through. They dont cause discomfort, nor do they cause pleasure. I would give examples, but there are strange people out there who find great joy in folding socks. Now expand this idea of every day tasks a little wider. Why are you doing them? What purpose is there to it? Where is the meaning?
And, dear reader, that is where we go today. Where is the meaning of our actions, of our life? What is our purpose? From a biological point of view, the meaning of life is to cast your genes as far into the future as possible – continuation of the species and what not. Thats good and all, but we are not merely biological beings. We are the only species on the planet which has a self image. Or to put it another way, we know we exist. Animals (it has been theorised) dont have the same self image we humans do. This self image has allowed us to have culture, philosophy, religion, society and everything else that stems from that.
The human life time, to put it into perspective, its on average, 931 months long. You can put 931 dots on a page, and that, thank you very much, is your life. Another way to picture this would be to acquire a desktop calendar. You know the one – its a large piece of paper with the whole year laid out on it. Only 80 of these is your life. Stop and think about that for a second – 80 pages represents your life. The good, the bad and the ugly. And for some of us, those 80 are never reached nor guaranteed.
So yet again, what purpose is there to live for? Our enjoyment? Our fulfilment? Our pleasures? It seems rather short sighted and selfish to me. From having children to buying the latest sports car, it all amounts to nothing. At the end of the day, you will cease to exist. This might not be a problem for you – you aren’t around to have to deal with it.
I suppose one should have goals in order to make any sense of their life, but all thats doing is distracting you from the inevitable. Just like having children distracts you from the fact that you are converting your precious time on this planet to ensure they survive and even them happy. It all seems rather pointless to me. If I could, I would reboot society. It will be nothing like it is now. Alas, I am not God, nor do I wish to be. Its hard enough having to look after a cat and a car and thats quite small compared to a universe. So nothing changes, and everything stays the same and you just end up wondering why even bother.
I ask again: why are we alive?
Think about it for a moment, and see if any answer comes forward.

We are alive because Adam made out with Eve and the rest is history. It's funny that our entire creation was based on getting jiggy with it in the Garden of Eden. Sometimes I feel like its procreation for the sake of procreation when the world is over populated and we are draining the world dry.
