Bin bin Laden

Sitting in front of my computer, in rainy New Zealand, I waited eagerly for the live stream to begin. At just after 11:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time, the leader of the free world, President Obama stepped forward. His first words were confirmation on what was wildly rumored just minutes before.

“Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world, the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who’s responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.”


After close to 10 years, missing it by a couple of months, the one man who sky rocketed to the number one most wanted man on the planet, was confirmed dead. Charged with master minding the greatest terrorist attack on US soil, he became an instant icon. Everyone knew his face, and to be truthful, everyone knew his fate. Bush JR affirmed how it would end, and it was up to his successor to follow that promise through. Eight years to the day after Bush JR stood on the aircraft carrier and declared “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED” it is finally done.

Or is it? You see, with one mans death, terrorist attacks will not end, the world will not turn to bunnies and rainbows and beer does not become free. Yes, a great victory it is, but the struggle is far from over. I offer my congratulations to the men and women who served in bringing this man his morbid justice, from President Obama down to the Marine Techies who cleaned the gun barrels. As surely as bin Laden lived to sow hatred and violence, so shall he die buy hatred and violence.

Let us, as a human race all stand together on this historic day and condem the form of violence sought by the likes of bin Laden. Goodbye and good riddance.
